Marhattan: A Font That Adds Romance to Branding

I recently had the chance to test Marhattan for a branding project, and it quickly became one of my favorite fonts to work with. The client was a small boutique that sells handmade skincare products. Their vision was simple but elegant—something that felt luxurious yet approachable, with a touch of romance. I knew I needed a font that could convey warmth and sophistication without being too overpowering.

A First Impression That Stands Out

When I first opened the Marhattan font file, I was immediately drawn to its unique character shapes. The letters flow like handwritten notes, with each stroke feeling deliberate and graceful. It’s a calligraphy typeface, but not in the traditional sense—it’s more modern, with a sweet and romantic flair. The characters dance along the baseline, giving it a playful yet refined look.

I started by sketching out some logo ideas on paper. Marhattan fit perfectly with the brand’s aesthetic. It wasn’t too bold or too delicate, which made it versatile enough to use across different design elements. I tested it on a few mockups, and it consistently added that extra spark of elegance to everything I created.

From Logo to Brand Identity

The logo was the first piece where Marhattan really shone. I paired it with a sans serif font for contrast, creating a balance between elegance and readability. The result was a logo that felt both modern and timeless. It worked well with the boutique’s color palette—soft pastels and warm neutrals—and helped reinforce the brand’s identity as a place where self-care meets beauty.

As I moved into developing the full brand identity, I used Marhattan for all the key text elements. It looked great on packaging labels, business cards, and even social media headers. One thing I noticed was how it maintained its charm even when scaled down. Whether it was on a tiny sticker or a large banner, the font remained legible and visually appealing.

Testing in Real-World Scenarios

To make sure Marhattan would work in every context, I tested it in several real-world scenarios. I printed out samples for the boutique’s signage and packaging, and I also created digital mockups for their website and social media content. On a shop sign, the font was soft enough to feel inviting but strong enough to be readable from a distance. On a business card, it added a personal touch that aligned with the brand’s handmade ethos.

I also experimented with different weights and styles within the font family. While Marhattan is primarily a display font, it can be used effectively as a headline or accent font. I found that pairing it with a clean sans serif font like Montserrat or Lato helped create a harmonious contrast that elevated the overall design.

Readability and Brand Perception

One of the most important aspects of any font is its readability. I wanted to ensure that Marhattan wouldn’t compromise clarity, especially since the boutique’s brand materials would be used in both print and digital formats. Fortunately, the font maintains good legibility even at smaller sizes, which is crucial for things like product labels and social media posts.

From a brand perception standpoint, Marhattan adds a level of sophistication and warmth that aligns perfectly with the boutique’s values. It conveys a sense of care and attention to detail, which resonates with the target audience. The font’s personality is gentle yet confident, making it ideal for a brand that wants to feel both authentic and upscale.

Practical Tips for Using Marhattan

If you’re considering using Marhattan for your own projects, here are a few practical tips to keep in mind:

Marhattan is a PUA encoded font, which means it has access to additional glyphs and ligatures that can enhance your design work. This feature is especially useful when working with multilingual content or custom branding needs.

Conclusion

Working with Marhattan for this branding project was a pleasure. It brought a sense of romance and luxury to every design element while maintaining readability and versatility. Whether you’re creating a logo, packaging, or social media graphics, Marhattan has the potential to elevate your brand’s visual identity and connect with your audience in a meaningful way.
